Top 10 Valuable Career Skills You Want To Know 2023

A very common complaint of the youth in our country is, “No job!” Many are doing BBA, or MBA from all the reputed universities of the country, studying engineering, but are unable to get a good job. Where is the problem - lack of employment, or lack of skills?

No resource is more valuable than the skilled human resources of a country. Bangladesh's population of 18-35-year-olds is about one-third of the country's total population, which is approximately 50 million. The sad thing is that a large part of this large population does not find work anywhere.

Currently, 47 percent of Bangladeshi graduates are unemployed. Many think that he does not have any uncles and aunts, so he is not getting a job. Many blame the education system. Many people think that the amount of employment in the country is limited.

But the reality is that there are more than two lakh foreign nationals working in the country, most of whom are from India. In the next step, citizens of other countries including Sri Lanka and Pakistan. These foreign nationals working at a high level in various institutions of our country are sending a large part of the earned money to their homeland without interruption, amounting to 5 billion dollars or 40 thousand crores of taka!

So it's not that there are no jobs, what's missing is the required skills. The organization will hire a person only when he can provide some 'value' to them. This applies to all organizations worldwide.

For example, there is no requirement to have a high GPA in exams to get a job at Google. Getting a job at Google doesn't matter much about GPA or getting good marks in exams. It shows how much the candidate knows about real “work”, so exceptional skills in math and computing, especially coding, are essential.

The World Economic Forum spoke with top executives from various companies around the world, researched, and found out some of the factors on which the security of our working lives in 2020 depends. Let's know about those things.

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking means the process of making a proper decision using various information. That's why all work-related information should be at your fingertips. You must have a clear understanding of what rival companies are coming up with, what is the most demand in the market, and the strengths and weaknesses of your own company, and use them to develop the ability to make the right decisions in adverse moments.

For example, a if certain branch of the company is having a lot of sales for a week, you need to find out what factors are working behind the increase in sales. Whether it is possible to apply them in other branches of the company, whether it will give any big profit to the company in the long run, or not - they need to be understood. Data is the most important power in this era of information technology, the more information one has, the more one will naturally be ahead of others in the workplace.

Creativity

Who builds a building? Masons do the building work, but the main achievement belongs to the architect - because he does the design work.

So whether you can build something yourself or go custom will determine your value. Creativity is valued worldwide. Creative workers do things a little differently, resulting in greater output than traditional methods. The more creative influence your work has, the happier the company will be with you.

So it is not enough to just keep reading about your own work, you have to keep your eyes and ears open, and you have to observe everything around you well. And during the student period, the habit of reading a lot of books and watching movies should be developed.

(Not action, thriller, or superhero movies, there are plenty of educational book movies, make it a habit to watch them. Those that are related to your work.)

People Management

One of the biggest complaints elders have against our generation is our lack of modesty. Even if you talk normally, it seems as if you are arguing! As a result of Internet addiction, more serious problems have arisen - young people sit with smartphones and laptops all day, and the skills of socializing and talking with people are not developed at all.

If you want to work in a company, you have to deal with different people, and you have to get along with everyone. If you want to work in a big position, you must lead different teams, big and small. The question is how do you manage your team?

Your boss will never call everyone on your team to get news. He will want you to present before him a summary of everything. And that's why you must develop a good rapport with the team members, keep in touch with them regularly, who is doing what when, where, when they are going on vacation, and who is responsible for what work - everything has to be at your fingertips. If you can do these things properly, the authorities will trust you with peace of mind.

Warren Buffett's law

Warren Buffett, one of the richest men in the world, owns more than 60 companies. His policy in management is to leave the organization in the hands of the chief executive manager. So his main task is to find a qualified executive officer or manager. A lazy person without intelligence can't make a visionary decision.

Comforters cannot be hired as managers, as they collapse under adverse circumstances. People with low sincerity do not try to constantly overcome their problems and improve.

Companies should hire people whose motto is, “You are your job!” Whose profession is not only a means of earning but also personal pride? In the unfavorable environment, they try their best to get out of it, in favorable times they try to improve. He finds such struggling dreamers.

Warren Buffett believes that if you want to get the maximum output, you have to give responsibility to those people. Such people are independent in work, stick to their decisions, getand work done at any cost. When people begin to think of a field as their own, they want freedom there, and this is exactly the freedom they give to their managers.

Berkshire Hathaway holds its annual meeting once a year. There, Warren Buffett wrote a long letter to the company and its shareholders. The letter covers everything from the evaluation of the organization to future plans.

Co-ordination with others

There are many different people to work with at work, but not all are the same. With some, you will easily develop a friendly relationship, with some you will not meet again. But if you want to work, you have to have the ability to get along with everyone. You don't like so-and-so so you can't work with him - that shouldn't happen.

So you must have the ability to adapt to the needs of the work and maintain friendly relations with everyone. Without coordination, there will not be a good link between the work. So this quality is very useful.

Emotional intelligence

Emotional intelligence means to remove personal emotions at work and behave professionally. To give a very simple example, think your loved one has died, naturally, your mind will be heavy at work. But if it affects your work, then it won't work. Because many people's work is involved with your work, they will not see what happened to you, the only thing that matters to them is whether the work is being paid.

Think again, for some reason the boss scolded you, then your job will be to admit your mistake and find out why you had to be scolded! You can't be upset, you have to think about where you can improve your work while maintaining professionalism. This is the most important aspect of Emotional Intelligence.

Judgment & Decision making

Decision-making skills are extremely important, having this quality will earn you respect everywhere. A manager's job is to make decisions, whether they are right or wrong. But this quality is developed from childhood. From which flavor of ice cream to buy to which brand of laptop to buy - there are decisions to be made everywhere. A very simple example - the text you are reading, what should be its title, but I had to think about various aspects and decide.

In our country, the quality of decision-making is not developed among people due to various reasons. Because in most families, parents are the ones who make decisions about children.

But parents will not be together at work! So judging everything here, if you can take the final decision, you can claim yourself as a leader. If you wait for the boss's decision on very small issues, then you will not be trusted by the authority.

Service Orientation

The mentality of serving people is very important. It is said that this matter is not prevalent in our country. We study - but get no interest. Even if you go to work, there is no compassion for work. We are busy thinking about when the vacation will be, and where we will go for a trip.

When you do something, you must first love it. Because if you don't love your work, you will never be able to give proper service. When the authorities see that you are deficient in service delivery, their trust in you will naturally decrease.

Knowing at least two foreign languages is very important!

Negotiation

Negotiation can be called in Bengali to settle, to come to a decision through discussion between the two parties. You can't imagine how many negotiations you have to do after entering the workplace! If you fail to do this, you will naturally fall far behind!

Negotiation is the most important job in today's business world. Many agencies in our country keep some workers in the company only for negotiation. So if you develop yourself as an expert in this work, then no one can stop you from moving forward in the company!

This negotiation skill is also developed in childhood. Bargaining with a shopkeeper in the market, settling a dispute between friends, persuading someone to do something - the value of negotiation skills is immense in all areas of life.

Cognitive Flexibility

You have to have knowledge of various subjects beyond the subject you are studying. Knowing at least two foreign languages is very important. What is happening in the present world, what is the political and social situation of any country - should have a good idea about everything. That is why the habit of reading the newspaper regularly must be developed. If you're thinking "I'm studying engineering, what's the use of knowing what Donald Trump and Putin discussed!" Then it's difficult!

There should be basic knowledge about everything. PowerPoint, Excel, and video editing are essential. To develop skills in various subjects from now. Wherever he goes, he will observe everything carefully, and try to learn. Only then no one can stop your progress.
