75 Years Harvard Experiment: Bring Your Own Success

Many of you may have heard of Tony Robbins, Brian Cressy, or Zig Ziglar. All are famous authors, one's book can be called life Hack and a source of inspiration for building a career! In the books of these famous authors, I read about a very popular experiment. The whole thing changed my thinking!

The Harvard Experiment:

In 1979, an experiment was conducted on students of Harvard University's MBA program. First, they were asked, "Which of you has your own future goals?"

How many people do you think were there?

In response to the question, 84 percent of the students said that they did not have any such goal. Of the remaining 16, 13 percent answered that they had goals in mind, but did not write them down. The remaining 3% of people, only they have rewritten their future goals!

Ten years later:

The experiment ended exactly ten years later. During these ten years, all the students were carefully monitored. Their track record, jobs, and everything. At the end of ten years, it was seen that the target of 13 percent was in mind? These 13 percent of people are earning three times more than the 84 percent who had no goals.

What's more interesting is that the 3% who planned it and set it in the account, they earned much more than the remaining 97%!

Did this experiment really happen?

After poking around the whole thing a bit more I came up with a few more interesting things. There is a group, who believe that nothing about this experiment is correct, they are up to prove it wrong. There is another group, who believe that this experiment never happened! After reading some more books about this, I discovered the real truth.

Whether the experiment was done or not, how high or how low the percentage is, it really doesn't matter. The whole concept is true, the main point of the experiment or theological experiment is that if anyone sets his goals, if he can keep them in the book in a more organized way, then he can definitely be ahead of others in the next life!

Effect of Experiment:

After reading everything I also thought that yes, this goal-setting can be done from now on! Then at least try to write in the ledger, let's see what the result is. I won't say long-term, but the results of doing this in the last two years have been very good for me. Doing this is very beneficial for me in two ways.

  • If I set a goal and write it down in the notebook, whatever I do, be it checking Facebook notifications or watching a movie, that goal will never be lost, it will always be in the notebook.

  •  In the same way, I keep my goal in mind while doing the work. It will not be forgotten.

There are two things to keep in mind:

After doing a bit more research on this, I found that, however, there are a few things to keep in mind when setting this goal. You must pay attention to two things! These are two questions that, if you ask yourself and get the answers, you will be more confident in setting goals.

First question: Is your goal specific?

Let's say your New Year's goal is to lose weight and get fit. But it is not a specific goal. How much weight you will lose, it can be said. Suppose your weight is 100 kg. If you plan, you will bring it down to 80 kg in two months. That will be the specific goal.

Second question: Do you have an action plan set for your goals?

It is the most important thing to achieve any goal. If there is an action plan or a definite plan, that person will not be in any danger if he is running toward his goal, because he already has the whole plan ready!

If you can't do it alone, get help from family and friends. Even then, make an action plan. Then start working towards your target.

The results of that experiment at Harvard University have been very good in my last two years. Having understood this, it helps a lot if you can write down your goal once in a notebook pen. If you plan properly and work towards that goal, you will see success!
